Sal "Gonzo" Gonzalez
Gonzo describes his music as everything from rock to Travis Tritt. His song "Heroes" is a powerful testimony to his time in Iraq. www.myspace.com/gonzocountry
Lance Corporal Salvador "Gonzo" Gonzalez (USMC, Retired) was born in East LA. After high school and against his father's wishes he joined the US Marine Corps in October of 2003. After training he was deployed to Iraq with the 2nd of the 5th Marines as a machine gunner. After two months in Iraq on October 31st, 2004 Gonzo's HMMWV was hit by an IED (this was the seventh IED attack Gonzo had sustained) resulting in serious injury for himself and the death of his platoon commander, Lt Matt Lynch. From the trauma of his injuries Gonzo went in to a coma for a week and woke up at Bethesda Naval Hospital. After over 30 surgeries it was decided that the best option was to amputate his left leg. After medical retirement from the Marines Gonzo ended up in Nashville and is attending college while pursuing a musical career.
